The online hub offering OTs all-in-one access to assistive technology and aids for independent living.

What was once the Hamilton Index – sets of well-thumbed ring-binders with frequently posted printed updates – is now a comprehensive online learning tool… DLF [1]

Solving independent living problems for disabled and older people is simpler now, thanks to charity led, ProAssist.

The web-based resource – the largest of its type in Europe – is a professionals’ portal to the latest information, evidence and tools to enhance neurorehabilitation and independent lifestyles.

It replaces the Hamilton Index, a collection of disability aids and equipment lists compiled by the DLF – formerly the Disabled Living Foundation – in 1987 and named after its founder, Lady Pix Hamilton. [2]

And, of particular note for occupational therapists (OTs), ProAssist provides solutions based on functional needs.

“The DLF has a long history, going back to our early years, working closely with professionals in their efforts to ensure that people’s independence is maximised,” the charity explains.

“What was once the Hamilton Index – sets of well-thumbed ring-binders with frequently posted printed updates – is now a comprehensive online learning tool that gathers together the best knowledge all in one place.

“DLF ProAssist presents solutions based on a person’s functional needs so that you can easily consider options across a range of technologies and choose the right combination for your client or service user.”

Products presented via ProAssist are catalogued according to functional needs and ISO international standards for assistive technology solutions.

Filters and themes help to narrow search options.

Subscribers to ProAssist are also encouraged to help keep it as current as possible by submitting fresh evidence, including videos, in-depth reviews and case studies.
